Call for Entries Open Space Design Competition, Rue de l'Alzette (LUX)

We are pleased to announce that the call for entries of the open space design competition for the Rue de l'Alzette and the adjacent city centre areas has been published on March 22, 2022. WW+ supports the awarding authority city of Esch-sur-Alzette in this project and is responsible for organising and supervising the competition process.

The competition itself aims at finding the best contemporary open space design for the pedestrian zone, one which is in sync with the requirements of a “city centre” conceived to act as a setting for activity, shopping, and living.

The extensive renewal of Rue de l'Alzette therefore contributes to the revitalisation process in downtown Esch already initiated in 2018. The most important findings from the 2018 civic participation were included in formulating the competition’s central objectives, such as greening and accessibility, thus taking into consideration the wishes and needs both citizens and residents have expressed regarding the redesign.

All prospective contestants can now apply for the competition until May 13, 2022. Successful applicants will subsequently enter a processing phase of approx. 3 months to develop their proposals. Presentation and award ceremonies will be held at the end of 2022.

In addition to Rue de l’Alzette, the competition area also includes Avenue de la Gare as well as the adjacent streetscapes of Rue de la Libération, Rue du X Septembre, and the northern section of Rue du Brill.
