Schengen Participation: Masterplans for Elvange & Wellenstein (LUX)
The participatory process for redesigning the School Campus Elvange and the village centre of Wellenstein, in collaboration with the Municipality of Schengen, has been successfully completed! Our planning firm was privileged to guide this forward-looking journey, where civic engagement and professional expertise worked hand-in-hand to develop liveable spaces for the community.
Between July and October 2025, the project underwent three intensive phases: a comprehensive invitation to the public and political committees, followed by several participatory workshops – two for citizens and a dedicated one for the commissions – and a thorough evaluation phase. Key topics such as urban functions, public spaces, and mobility were discussed. From approximately 248 submitted proposals, about 100 concrete, actionable measures were identified.
The resulting Master Plans, „Campus Scolaire Elvange“ and „Centre du Village Wellenstein“, were presented to the public on July 6, 2026.
The Elvange School Campus will become a vibrant place for community life and sports. It will be enriched by new, affordable housing and essential services. A redesigned sports hall, a modern playground, optimized pathways, and parking areas will create the ideal infrastructure for this. Wellenstein will gain a village centre with an improved quality of life and a strengthened identity. Through traffic calming and fewer parked cars, open spaces will emerge. The repurposing of the Tourist Info building and the Église Sainte-Anne, along with the redesign of Place Klincker, will unlock untapped potential and create new focal points for the community.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to all engaged citizens for their valuable contributions and active participation! We would also like to thank the Municipality of Schengen for their trusting cooperation.
