Conclusion of the #NeiDikrich Competition Procedure, Diekirch (LUX)

As the second component of the comprehensive revitalization process for Diekirch's historic city centre, our office was responsible for the entire "NeiDikrich" competition procedure, focused on achieving a clear design identity, a coherent overall open space design concept, and strong long-term development potential. Our services extended from the organization of the preceding participation phase to the final jury meeting and included the preparation of the competition brief, the organization and leadership of the colloquium, and the execution of the preliminary review with interdisciplinary expert advisors.

The jury meeting took place on July 8 and 9, 2026. Five design teams had developed comprehensive open space concepts for the future design of Diekirch's city centre. The jury, comprising specialist jurors and representatives of the City of Diekirch, unanimously awarded first prize to the joint venture of club L94 and BEST Ingénieurs Conseils. The entry particularly convinced through its connection of streets and squares via a coherent design system of urban ground elements, water, vegetation, and lighting. Highlights included the Rue de l’Étoile, the strengthened connections to the Sauer river and the Cité Militaire, as well as Place Goethals, conceived as an urban garden.

We are delighted by the successful conclusion of the competition and the high quality of the submissions. Subject to the necessary political resolutions, the winning design will now be further refined and gradually prepared for implementation. This competition thus represents an important milestone for the sustainable revalorization of Diekirch's city centre and the ongoing #NeiDikrich revitalization process.
