CFL's "Bâtiment Infra" completed, Luxembourg (LUX)

CFL’s main site in Luxembourg City is now home to the Bâtiment Infra, which combines workshop spaces with offices, meeting rooms, changing rooms, and storage areas in a compact hybrid structure.

The new building at CFL’s central site in Luxembourg City combines workshop facilities with office, meeting, changing and storage spaces within a compact hybrid structure. The ground floor and stairwell are constructed in concrete, while the upper level is built in solid timber, creating a clear material and structural distinction between the two levels.

An expressive timber façade characterises the exterior. Suspended and ventilated, it features a pre-greyed finish that complements the industrial glazing and reinforces the building’s restrained architectural language. At the heart of the ground floor, the metal fabrication workshop is equipped with an overhead crane system and provides a clear internal height of 7.10 metres. Underfloor heating is integrated into the ground-floor slab, while separate air-handling units serve the workshop and office areas, allowing the different uses to be conditioned independently.

The interior follows a deliberately restrained material palette of warm mineral finishes, light shades of white and grey, timber and exposed concrete. A combination of smooth and textured surfaces adds tactile variation while maintaining a coherent, timeless atmosphere. The resulting architecture balances the robust character required by the workshop with the warmer, more refined qualities of the office and communal spaces.

Constructed by a general contractor over approximately 14 months, the building was completed and inaugurated in July 2026.
