Residential Complex "Fagus" complements "JongMëtt Lënster”, Junglinster (LUX)

The final construction phase of the “Fagus” residential complex in Junglinster’s “JongMëtt” town centre was completed this spring. The project is an integral part of the “JongMëtt Lënster” urban development initiative launched by the municipality.

The complex brings together diverse housing typologies in a coherent ensemble. The apartment building along the Rue de la Gare comprises nine accessible residential units, including an apartment specifically designed for wheelchair users, and an integrated Leisure and Community Centre for seniors on the ground floor. The development is further complemented by a two-family house and a row of six single-family houses All three buildings are set above a shared underground car park, reducing stationary traffic in the neighbourhood while providing direct access to the homes.

Arranged around a semi-public, landscaped courtyard, the buildings directly connect residential living with the renatured Schwarze Ernz river and the adjacent city park via a pedestrian bridge, promenade, and new pathways. This integrative approach is also reflected in the architecture and choice of materials.

The buildings were constructed using a sustainable timber-concrete hybrid method: while the basement was built in concrete due to its proximity to the water, the upper floors were constructed in timber. High-perfomance insulation, green roofs and circular material choices support the responsible use of resources. As part of efforts to raise awareness of sustainable construction, the project is aiming for a Lenoz certification.

Thus, "Fagus Junglinster" forms a vibrant piece of the town centre that sustainably combines architecture, nature, and community life in Junglinster.
