Alt Sprëtzenhaus, Esch-sur-Alzette (LUX)

The renovation and extension of the ‘Sprëtzenhaus’ (former equipment store of the local fire brigade) following designs from WW+ has been unanimously approved by the municipal council of Esch-sur-Alzette on January 31st.

The old fire station, built in Wilhelminian time, is part of the cultural heritage of the town and will be renovated and extended to become a day care centre for children. The building is in proximity to three schools and will be able accommodate up to 145 children thanks to an extension in wooden-hybrid construction.

The look of the existing building will be retained because of its historical significance. The extensions shall create a modern, child-friendly component due to use of the chosen materials.
