2nd Place in the Competition 'Gîtes - Red-Rock-Trail' (LUX)

We are pleased by a second prize in the competition "Gîtes - Red-Rock-Trail" with our design of the former "Polverhaus" (Maison Gonner) in Rumelange.

By the cultural year Esch 2022, the Minett-Trail will lead hikers over 80 kilometers through 11 southern communes of Luxembourg. Each commune has previously defined a building or site, to offer overnight accomodation along the way. For the transformation of these into original lodgings, an architectural competition has been launched by the OAI and Pro-Sud past November.

Our concept for Maison Gonner has foreseen the installation of boxes made out of oriented strand board on the inside of the building to form the sleeping areas. These boxes allow a high degree of prefabrication, a quick assembly and would allow to keep the existing walls unchanged. In the West, an extension of steel, entirely glazed, has been planned, which serves as a community area for the guests and offers the feeling of "sitting in the middle of nature" thanks to its openness. Thanks to the collaboration with the Escher artist Daniel Mac Lloyd, the designs have been extended by another creative dimension through the conception of colored ceiling/wall design and sculptures, inspired by the structures of the facade.

The first prize went to the project of heisbourg strotz architects, to whom we congratulate.
