Task: The objective of the competition is the design of the square in the centre of Esch-sur-Alzette and the enhancement of the city centre. The square is the counterpart to the town hall square and is located at the upper end of the city’s main shopping street. It is bordered by the theatre, the Brill school, the “Musée National de la Résistance”, residences and shops. Given the shortage of green areas in the Brill quarter, the design of the square is to place particular emphasis on green spaces, planting and artistic composition, while ensuring a high identification value. Alongside architects, open space designers/landscape architects and lighting designers, competition teams are to also include artists. Work area: central area (square) of approx. 7,100 m² Peripheral areas (surrounding streets) of approx. 9,925 m².
