Coordination of the ‘Am Sand’ urban design ideas competition, Niederanven (LUX)

WW+ accompanied a multi-stage Urban Design ideas Competition for the development of Niederanven’s "Am Sand" municipal centre. The aim was to create a long-term spatial development perspective until 2050 and establish a robust basis for subsequent master planning. The process began with a citizen participation process, with insights directly informing the competition brief.

Our role in the competition process included preparing the tender documents, organizing and supervising the call for entries and the colloquium, providing support for the participating teams, preliminarily reviewing the submitted works, as well as preparing the jury meeting. Expert advisors in climate, ecology, mobility, and accessibility from Transsolar and INCA provided additional support.

The selected five interdisciplinary design teams developed future visions for "Am Sand" across key urban themes. The independent jury, comprising specialist jurors and municipal representatives, unanimously awarded the first prize to the design of Dewey Müller / LILL + SPARLA. It now forms the technical foundation for the subsequent master planning and the sustainable, climate-resilient, identity-shaping evolution of the "Am Sand" centre.

We extend our sincere congratulations to the winning team on this success and thank all participating firms for the high quality of their submissions and their intensive engagement with the competition brief!
