Frank Jons (LUX), 2020-21

Born in 1964, in Boulogne-Billancourt France, Frank Jons has lived and worked in Luxembourg since 2001. With a diploma in accounting and financial studies in hand, but a passion for painting since his childhood, he decided in devote himself fully to painting in 1996.

The first trigger was the Estève exhibition at the Grand Palais in 1986. Matisse, Van Gogh, Debré, Alechinsky, Rothko and Soulages, Frank Jons devoured art but above all it was colour that fascinated him. In 2000, he undertakes an 8-month trip in a motorhome with his wife and child in the United States and Canada to the Arctic Circle, which will make him change his way of working because, for practical reasons, he will go from oil to acrylic during his journey. In 2008, the Pierre Werner Prize won him recognition on the Luxembourg art scene. Personal exhibitions follow one after another, the public discovers his instinctive painting from which colour springs. Marathon runner, trail runner, Frank Jons is tough. His painting is physical, his art a chromatic explosion.

“There is a kind of frenzy, a kind of trance as I paint, a kind of elation. It’s just energy and I want it to be free from all constraints.”
