Introduction
The Schuller Parkbrasserie project, which carries the name ‘Schou’, is part of an overall concept for the redesign of the municipal park in the centre of Schouweiler. The chosen location of the restaurant pavilion is at the entrance to the park coming from the ‘Rue de la Résistance’, adjacent to a playground and in the immediate vicinity of the Dippach town hall. The ‘Mess’ flows to the south of the pavilion and makes its way through the park.
The building
The pavilion is an attractive meeting place for local residents and visitors from the surrounding area, especially for families, thanks to its new gastronomic use. The timber architecture is designed in a contemporary style using sustainable materials and blends harmoniously into the surrounding park landscape.
The roof overhang protruding over part of the terrace provides protection from the sun in the hot summer months. The generous floor-to-ceiling windows create a seamless transition between the indoor and outdoor areas and the glass façade; sliding sunshade elements shield the interior of the restaurant from direct sunlight when required.
The pavilion, with a south-facing terrace facing the park, covers an area of 295 m² and offers an indoor dining area with a total of 49 seats. This extends along the glass façade and offers a generous view of the green surroundings from inside.
The functional areas such as the kitchen, bar, sanitary facilities and technical rooms are grouped together and form the northern backbone. The restaurant is also supplied via the north side and thus without crossing the pedestrian promenade to the south.
To enhance the quality of the municipal park, the pavilion, accessible from its east façade, houses public sanitary facilities with barrier-free access.
Landscape planning
As part of the overall concept, the neighbouring playground was enlarged and supplemented with attractive play equipment for children of different age groups. The pavilion benefits from the direct connection to the extensive network of footpaths in the park.
