Dieter Haack was born on 14 February 1941 in Gladbeck. From 1959 to 1963 he attended the art academy in Düsseldorf.

In 1967 he was awarded the Förderpreis des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen. In 1970 and 1971 he received a scholarship to the Villa Massimo in Rome.

Dieter Haack has lived in Cologne (GER) since 1974.
